Elastomer Technologies & Systems
De-Icing
De-Icing Systems
Aerazur develops and manufactures pneumatic de-icing systems for aircraft.
The supply of such systems include the pneumatic elastomer de-icers and all the valves used for air control and supply as well as the controller managing system operation (cycles, data centralising, etc.).
These systems guarantee efficient protection of the wings, tail section and possibly the air intakes, for flights under icing conditions.
When ice begins to accumulate on the wings, the de-icers are inflated and deflated cyclically to break it up and cast it off. The icing cycle frequency (short or long cycle) depends on the conditions encountered as defined by JAR and FAR 25 Appendix C as well as on the application (type of airfoil, aircraft speed, altitude, etc.).
The heated de-icing system is mainly used to protect the engine propellers during anti-icing (continuous heating at minimum power to prevent ice accretion: preventive system).
- Applications
- DASH 8Q400 (DE HAVILLAND)
- C27 J (ALENIA LOCKHEED)
- Y 8 (SHAANXI AIRCRAFT)
- ECLIPSE 500
- BA 609 (BELL / AUGUSTA)
This is accomplished by a heating element embedded in an elastomer matrix directly bonded to the surface to be protected.
The Dash8-400 has been the first aircraft on which Aerazur supply full systems. The 4 system on this aircraft
are the following:
- Pneumatic De -icing system
- Ice Detection system
- Windshield Anti-ice controller system
- Door Seal system
Aerazur makes the initial ice accretion calculations at the inception of wing design then designs and supplies the entire system. This partnership makes Aérazur a leader for de-icing.
Electrical De-Icing
Aerazur proposes a complete range of electrical heaters in various thickness and dimension. Those heaters can be used for Engine Air Intake.
Aerazur also propose electrical de-icers to be fitted on propeller blades.
The new technology was developed with Ratier FIGEAC on the Transall military application.
The flat or in shape de-icers are made for metallic and composite propellers.
Aerazur was selected to provide de-icers for the new Ratier NP 2000 propeller blade version for the E2C application.
Pneumatic De-Icers
The de-icers produced by Aerazur are shaped like rubber blankets covering the ice accretion aera. In these blankets are located narrow tubes that can be inflated by compressed air.
The cyclic inflation of these tubes breaks and lifts the ice in the air.

ensuring perfect reproducibility of shapes and regularity of stitches, resulting in significantly higher life
expectancy than competing designs.
Airborne Fuel
Armoured Vehicles Fuel Cells
Aérazur is the leader for design and production of flexible tanks for armoured vehicles and tanks.

Fluid Logistic
Collapsible Tanks for Storage
Purpose:
To settle fast deployment fuel storage depot.
Concept:
Foldable, light weighted, quickly operational on all kinds of location and resistant to bad climatic conditions.
The storage tanks are collapsible autoportable structures with a capacity amounting to 210,000 gal to the French and US Mil Spec.
Collapsible Tanks for Transport
Purpose:
To adapt a storage capacity for the transport of liquids on all tactical vehicles (hydrocarbons, drinking
water...)
Concept:
These flexible tanks are stowed on flanges the tactical vehicle by means of adjustable streps. Their unit
capacity is from 500 to 200 000 litres. These tanks are approved by the US DOT for the transportation of class 9
Hazardous materials.
Spas Tanks
Purpose:
Thermal spring storage
Concept:
This tank is foldable and quickly set up. Its parallelepiped shape avoids any contact with the ambient air.
The whole tank is made of polyamide fabric in which elastomer is rubbed. An interior barrier wall guarantees a perfect compatibility of the material with the stored water.
Seal
1. Inflatable seal for tank turret or aircraft cockpit
2. Vapour seal sealing membrane for the aviation industry
3. Gammastop © radiation protection sheet replacing lead
4. Sealing skirt for oil storage (refinery tanks) and nuclear applications
Oil
Certain oil tanks are equipped with a floating roof to eliminate the gas phase that collects above the oil,
thereby considerably reducing evaporation losses, which is advantageous ecologically, economically and also for
safety reasons.
The annular space between the tank skirt and floating room is equipped with sealing systems which complete this
vapour release prevention effort which protecting the oil against external contamination.
Aérazur makes its own Nitrile, Neoprene and Viton coated fabrics in different thicknesses and on various textile backings to product floating roof seals with interesting properties, such as very good resistance to the products stored, and against abrasion and aging.
Our line of products:
- Delta Seal flexible foam seals
- Double shell or Tube Seal fluid seals
- Flaps for metal joints
- Green Seal compressible seals
- Secondary lip seals
Aérazur/ZODIAC also makes floating roof rainwater drainpipes called Hose-Drains.
Nuclear
Aérazur / ZODIAC is the specialist in flexible membranes for floating roof tanks for storage and
sealing of secondary system demineralised water used in nuclear power generation.
The outstanding feature of these elastomer membranes is that they are fully tight against the external
environment (no presence of oxygen), thereby preserving the initial characteristics of the product stored.
Composites Products
Starting in 1947, Aérazur Composites has been designing and manufacturing composite parts and subassemblies for the Aerospace and Defence industries. In close cooperation with its customers and basing on a rich and varied experience, Aérazur Composites has become one of the most innovative companies in these fields.
Static or moving parts for engines and engines nacelles on commercial and military aircraft (CFM 56, GE 90 , M 53 families for instance) as well as structural parts for optronics or sonar systems, enclosures for emergency floatation or escape systems are examples of the various techniques mastered by Aérazur Composites. These products are manufactured in France in a newly built plant located NW of Paris, in a location with privileged connexions via motorways or international airports.
